Hazel Park Community Coalition

HPCC is a Drug-Free Community (DFC) Coalition that organizes with the community to meet the local prevention needs of youth and families within Hazel Park.  

Our role within schools is to partner on substance misuse prevention, mental health wellness, and community advocacy.

In alignment with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), our coalition is made up of the 12 sectors listed below: 

  • Youth 

  • Parents

  • Businesses

  • Media 

  • Schools

  • Youth Serving Organizations

  • Law Enforcement

  • Faith-Based Organizations

  • Civic or Volunteer Groups

  • Healthcare Professionals

  • State/ Local Agencies

  • Substance Abuse Agencies


Our mission is to lead and facilitate data-driven, community-based initiatives that empower Hazel Park youth and families to choose a chemical-free lifestyle, resulting in a reduction in substance use among youth.

HPCC provides evidence-based prevention and recovery resources for community members of all ages.  We welcome community involvement, social advocacy collaboration, and financial support partnerships that empower Hazel Park families to choose a drug-free lifestyle.

To impact change, we strive to implement the seven community change strategies listed below:

  • Providing information

  • Enhancing skills

  • Providing support

  • Enhancing access/ Reducing barriers

  • Changing consequences

  • Physical design

  • Modifying/ changing policy


HPCC provides:

  • In school prevention and recovery education in the form of learning series, presentations, and student groups

  • Community-based training for families including youth, adults, and seniors

  • Prevention and mental health wellness resources 

  • Support on local policies that align to substance use prevention and recovery objectives
