FROM THE PRINCIPAL...

We are now in the second half of the school year and it brings many exciting events here at Jardon. Jardon offers a Post High School community that is rich in work experience, life and social skills development and many extra curricular activities.

Developments in Special Education continue to unfold. Oakland Schools continues to move forward in a redesign of center programs, which will affect Jardon at some point in the future. Oakland Schools would like to implement the redesign by 2016. One of the big pushes will be for districts to create programs within their own districts. Whenever possible please share how important the Jardon program is in educating special education students in Post High programming. We need the support of ALL the surrounding districts to remain the BEST post high school option in Oakland County! Our legislators have been quiet regarding changing the eligibility to age to 21. I have several contacts and sources; they all say it is not on anyone's agenda at this time. This is an issue to keep our eyes and ears open for any developments. The "fiscal Cliff" agenda ("Sequestration") at a federal level may have an effect on special education funding in Michigan. Another concern for educators, if funds for Education become part of the cuts, it will have a direct hit on local districts and special education funding. Looking forward to our next Fun Night, March 20th and Parent Conferences April 11th.

Thank you for supporting such a great program.
Yours in Education,
Mrs. Dowbenko
Principal
